A recent attack on a Buddhist priest in Tamil Nadu was a clear cut attempt to restart ethnic tensions in Sri Lanka, while the Government continued to harbour architects of the recently ended conflict in the country, the UNP affiliated United Bhikku Front said yesterday.

The UBF said that the law was not being enforced against former LTTE commanders and leaders, Karuna Amman and Pillaiyan and Kumaran Pathmanathan (KP) who were being sheltered and protected by the Government.

“It is often said in order to launch an effective attack, the enemy needs only to penetrate the fortress. That has happened now,” UBF Chief Organiser Sedawatte Veheragoda Chief Incumbent Ambanwala Gnanaloka Thero told a media briefing yesterday.

He called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa to think of the country and take the necessary steps to bring the former LTTE members before the law. The UBF said that the incumbent Government had come to power in 2005 promising to deliver a ‘dharmarajaya’ and it was now enacting casino laws.

“Just like the staircase at the National Museum which collapsed recently, suddenly out of nowhere, this Government will also collapse,” Gnanaloka Thero said. (DB)
