Bottesford tea parties to raise money for Sri Lankan orphans

Tea parties are being held this month to raise money for orphaned and abandoned girls in Sri Lanka.

The initiative was started by the Rosie May Foundation, a charity set up by the parents of a murdered 10-year-old girl, Graham and Mary Storrie.

The event is sponsored by Tatler’s Ceylon Tea, a Sri Lankan tea company with a plantation close to the Rosie May home, founded by the organisation following the devastating tsunami in 2004.

More than 40 tea parties are being held in Bottesford, other UK locations and abroad in Canada and New Zealand. Free tea is provided by the sponsors with donations being taken by attendees.

Storrie said: “We started out aiming for 22 tea parties for what would have been Rosie May’s 22nd birthday on 9 May, and it just grew from there.

“It is always incredibly humbling to see people put so much of their time and energy to raising crucial funds for our cause.

“It keeps Rosie May’s legacy alive; the girls at the Rosie May home in Sri Lanka are very excited about having their own tea party too.”
