British envoy meets new Maldives President

President Dr. Mohamed Waheed yesterday met with the British High Commissioner accredited to the Maldives, John Rankin.

During the meeting held at the President’s Office, the President and the High Commissioner discussed ways to further strengthen and extend the close relations between the two countries. The High Commissioner also assured President Waheed of the British government’s full support to the Maldives, according to a statement issued by the Maldives’ President Office.

It also said President Waheed met with the High Commissioner of India Dnyaneshwar Mulay as well.

Discussions at the meeting were focused on the close bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance these relations.

The High Commissioner offered his confidence of the Indian government’s full support to the government of the Maldives. President Waheed reiterated that his objective was to compose a national unity government.
