Budget 2012 inspires WB support for health sector

World Bank has expressed keenness to support the Government taking the Budget 2012 as the basis for its work plan especially in the health sector.

This had been communicated to Treasury during a meeting with World Bank representatives in the field of health care last week.

Finance Ministry sources said representatives of the World Bank expressed that it was pleased to mention the progress achieved in the field of health in Sri Lanka as middle income developed country.



On this occasion, Secretary to the Treasury Dr. P.B. Jayasundera stated that the government has aimed to make salient reforms to the field of education as well as health through its budget and therefore the future plans should be based on that.

Secretary to the Treasury further stated that the government is taking measures to grant more concessions to the private sector who invest on the field of health.

Here, the representatives of the World Bank pointed out that there is a dire need of a systematic and perfect information system for ensuing development of the country.

The Secretary to the Treasury further mentioned that the Finance Commission should perform at regulatory level and the Ministry of Provincial Councils and local government affairs should carry out development activities within the authority of the provincial councils.

He also stated that the core objective of the government is to provide access for every citizen of this country in order to meet their health facilities without any difficulties.
