Cabinet approval to increase Mahapola Scholarship and Bursary payment

At the Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday Cabinet approval was given to increase the Mahapola Scholarship and Bursary payment with effect from 1 May.
This decision was made following a proposal presented by the Minister of Higher Education and Research Dr. Sarath Amunugama.
It was proposed in the 2015 Budget to increase the Mahapola Scholarship payment to Rs. 5,000 with effect from 1 July in order to create an atmosphere of confidence among the student population and increase the Bursary payment from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 2,500. As a result the Government announced that they would be increasing the Mahapola scholarship and Bursary payment with effect from 1 May.
