The Cabinet on Wednesday approved the appointing of a Cabinet Sub-Committee on Power and Energy & Supply and Distribution of Petroleum Products.
Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told the press yesterday that the Cabinet of Ministers decided to appoint a Cabinet Sub-Committee on Power and Energy & Supply and Distribution of Petroleum Products to oversee importation and distribution of petroleum products for all purposes, including power generation.
It will comprise A.H.M. Fowzie, Senior Minister for Urban Affairs, Susil Premjayanth, Minister of Petroleum Industries, Patali Champika Ranawaka Minister of Power and Energy, W. D. J. Seneviratne Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs and Dilan Perera Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare.
Secretary, Ministry of Power and Energy will function as the Secretary to this Sub-Committee. Secretary to the Ministry of Finance and Planning, Co-Chief Executive Officer of the Secretariat for Senior Ministers and the Secretary to the Ministry of Petroleum Industries should attend the Meetings of this Sub-Committee.
Responding to questions Rambukwella noted that currently there was no time given for when damage caused by substandard fuel imports would be paid by the government.
