Cargills reaches out to flood Cictims

Team Cargills came together to give a helping hand to flood victims targeting some of the most affected areas in Sri Lanka. Dry tinned food and water that can be consumed instantly was dispatched to over 12,000 families with 14 lorry loads of goods reaching flood victims who were reportedly inaccessible for 48 hours. Cargills in coordination with the local authorities and the Sri Lanka Navy were able to dispatch these food items to areas such as Halmulla, Sedawaththa, Wellampitiya, Kelaniya, Ja-Ela and IDH.

Commenting on the initiative Imtiaz A. Wahid, Managing Director of Cargills (Ceylon) PLC  said the initiative comes as part of the Cargills culture of being connected to its local community. “Cargills Food City is very much a part of each local community it operates in, providing employment, developing infrastructure and empowering local suppliers and farmers through our outlets islandwide. So in a time of great disaster it is only natural that our local branches stepped out of their outlets to support and assist the community in need. We are conscious that it is the community that helps us build a sustainable business and it is our duty to shoulder their burden in this great time of need,” he said.
