Colombo Archbishop, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith yesterday urged the Government to fully implement the recommendations of the Lessons Learned and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC). Speaking at a press briefing in Colombo, the Cardinal said that the international community must not interfere in Sri Lanka’s domestic affairs. However he said at the same time the Government must not avoid addressing the core issues which are being used as the basis by the international community to push for an investigation in Sri Lanka. The Cardinal said that Sri Lanka must also not go back on its word to address the issues and implement the LLRC proposals. He also said that there are many people who are in prison who have yet to face charges or be presented in court. The Cardinal said that in some instances the date for a trial keeps being postponed. He said that keeping them in prison without charging them is unfair. He also called for a proper investigation into the whereabouts of the missing people or those believed to have disappeared.
