Police investigating the attack on Minister Mervyn Silva’s son Malaka Silva at the Odel car park said that CCTV cameras had captured images of the gang involved in the attack and their vehicle. Although their faces are not clear as they had their backs towards the CCTV camera, the men numbering around 12 are said to be lean and are in clothing similar to that worn by the security forces. The vehicle in which they came is believed to be a Defender type jeep and the number plate was WP AI-5133, police sources told the Colombo Gazette. The Cinnamon Gardens police and the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) are investigating the attack. Public relations Minister Mervyn Silva said yesterday his son Malaka Silva was not seriously injured in the attack at the Odel clothes store car park. He said that a group of men had approached Malaka and asked him if he was Malaka Silva. When he said yes then the men had attempted to drag him towards a black Montero. Malaka had resisted and he was assaulted by the gang after which they drove away from the scene. Minister Silva said that Malaka had contacted him following the incident and briefed him on what had taken place and went to hospital for treatment. The Minister said he was still not sure who had carried out the attack but he added that he will take stern action once he finds out. (Colombo Gazette)
