Chamal at 22nd Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth in New Zealand

The 22nd Conference of the Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth was held in Wellington New Zealand from 21 to 25 January 2014.
Chamal Rajapaksa Speaker of the Sri Lanka Parliament accompanied by Dhammika Dasanayake Secretary General of Parliament attended the conference representing the Parliament of Sri Lanka at the invitation of Speaker of the Parliament of New Zealand David Carter.
At the conference in recognition of the lead role played by Rajapaksa in Commonwealth forums and promoting Commonwealth ideals, the Speakers and Presiding Officers Conference unanimously elected Speaker Rajapaksa to the Standing Committee of the conference to represent the Asia Region. The conference also discussed important topics which included Parliamentary privilege and openness and transparency.
