Channel 4 videos to be part of LLRC report

The Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) looking into the LTTE conflict will include in its final report the details of its investigation of the two video documentaries aired by the British Channel 4.

The findings on the two videos would be incorporated in the final report that is schedule to be handed over to President Mahinda Rajapaksa by 15 November, the LLRC spokesman Lakshman Wickramasinghe said.

The international community, including the US, UK and the European Union, has urged an independent investigation into the videos. Sri Lanka answered that LLRC was the forum to probe the videos.

The LLRC spokesman also said that the LLRC had come under pressure from international forces to issue its report in time for the UN Human Rights Council.

The Commission will hand over its report to President Mahinda Rajapaksa on 15 November, he said adding that commission’s due date is November 15 and that is when we intend on handing in the report as we are duty bound to give it by then. No one can tell us what to do or when we have to do it.

The spokesman said neither the UN nor the Government could pressurise the Commission to complete the report immediately in order to present it to the UN General Assembly next month.
