The Judiciary has decided to complete the hearings of child abuse cases within five months.

The first stage of this project is to be commenced from Colombo and Polonnaruwa Districts.

Deputy Solicitor General Palitha Fernando pointed out that some child abuse cases were being examined for over 10 years, causing difficulty to both prosecution and defendant parties.

Accordingly, a deputy solicitor general is to be appointed to each province and the Police officials directed by a deputy inspector general will assist the investigations. The Ministry of Health will also assist to speed up the judicial process.
