China assures support for development of SL’s ports and shipping sector

Beijing: China has pledged to fully support the development efforts of Sri Lanka including the development of its ports and shipping sector as the island nation plays a significant role in international maritime transport.

The President of China Xi Jinping has given this assurance to Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe when the two leaders met on the sidelines of the of China’s Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation summit.

President Xi noted that since Sri Lanka is the pearl in the China’s Maritime Silk Route, its role is extremely important in ports and shipping traffic and China will ensure the development of the sector.

The Chinese President has said that he wishes for prosperity and success in Sri Lanka.
