China condoles; extends support

Chinese Ambassador Yi Xianliang yesterday extended sympathy and condolences to the Sri Lankan President, on the disastrous flooding and landslides affecting the country.

The Chinese Ambassador called on President Maithripala Sirisena at the President’s residence to learn about the disaster situation following the heavy rains that led to severe flooding and landslides around the Island.DFT-2-7

On behalf of the Chinese President Xi Jinping as well as the Chinese Government and people, Ambassador Yi extended the deepest sympathy and condolences to President Sirisena, the Sri Lankan Government and people especially the families affected by the disaster, emphasised Chinese Government and people’s solidarity with Sri Lankan Government and people at this difficult time, and assured that China would do its utmost for Sri Lanka’s relief and rebuilding efforts. The Chinese side believes that under the leadership of President Sirisena, the Sri Lankan Government and people will surely overcome the difficulties and rebuild homes.

President Sirisena outlined the disaster situation and relief work of the Government, and requested Ambassador Yi to convey his thanks to President Xi, the Chinese Government and people. President Sirisena said China always offered support and assistance to Sri Lanka at the without delay whenever the island country encountered disasters. He highly appreciated the kindness and sincerity extended by the Chinese people.
