China donates water quality analyser to Sri Lanka

The Chinese Academy Science (CAS) delegation led by Qiu Huasheng, Deputy Director General of International Cooperation of CAS held an official meeting with R.M.U.D. Basnayake, Secretary of the Ministry of City Planning and Water Supply, Eng. K.A. Ansar, Chairman of National Water Supply and Drainage Board in Colombo on 19 October. 

The two sides exchanged views on the planning, development and remaining issues regarding the cooperation on Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) study and analysis. During the meeting, CAS donated a set of water quality analyser worth Rs. 22 million to the Sri Lankan side for the purpose of CKD study and analysis.

During the past three years, CAS has been working closely with the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Water Supply of Sri Lanka, and has done field research in Kandy, Anuradhapura and Jaffna, to find out the effect of water quality on CKD in different regions.
