Chinese arrested with Rs. 4.2 m worth of gems at BIA

A Chinese woman was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday with gem stones worth over Rs. 4.2 million.
Customs officers at the airport checked the 35 year old woman’s luggage on suspicion when she was preparing to board a flight to Shanghai.
Inside the luggage they found gem stones worth over Rs. 4.2 million. The woman had pleaded innocent saying she did not know that gem stones could not be taken out of the country undeclared. Airport authorities had found that she had travelled between Sri Lanka and China on at least four occasions.
Further investigations are underway. (Colombo Gazette)
