Colombo Additional Magistrate Prasanna De Alwis yesterday ordered the OIC of Unit 3 of the CID to appear in court in person on 17 April to show cause as why they had failed to be present in court to make submissions in the Mulleriyawa murder case during the magisterial inquiry.
On the last date of the case, Magistrate Prasanna De Alwis ordered the CID to report to court the whereabouts of Parliamentarian Duminda Silva and whether the CID would arrest him or not, and if not, to report to court the reason for it.
Although all parties to the case were present in court when the interpreting mudaliyar called the names of the suspects to begin inquiry yesterday morning, the magistrate observed that the prosecuting officer IP Merryl Ranjan of the CID was not present.
On further inquiry from counsel, it was revealed that the CID officer who was in the court room earlier was missing at that time. Colombo Additional Magistrate Prasanna Alwis made the order on the CID earlier to submit a report on the whereabouts of Duminda Silva following the submissions made by President’s Counsel Thirantha Walaliyadda alleging that Duminda, who was suspect in the Mulleriyawa murder case, was absconding court.
The 16 suspects in custody over the incident were further remanded till 17 April.
