Codes and ethics to obtain quality electricity service

The three publications were handed over to Minister of Power and Energy Champika Ranawaka by PUCSL Chairman Saliya Mathew. The collection includes payment methods of electricity bills and basic rights and responsibilities of consumers. In his speech, Minister Ranawaka said that many areas of the power supply sector in the country had become complicated due to provisional policies in previous Governments. “We need to supply maximum service to the people. They have poor information on getting electricity service. The collection will help them to recognise their rights and benefits,” the Minister added. Talking about the ‘Supply Services Code’, CEB General Manager M.C Wikramasekara said that even if the CEB had monopoly in the market they had a responsibility to provide the best service to consumers. He further asserted that the service code had introduced the facility of paying the bills on holidays, weekends and after working hours. He said that they had given the chance to people to settle their bills via Skype and other internet facilities. The code also has cast significant attention on the basic rights of the server. It included the right of entering premises, right to communicate with consumers as well as other basic needs that a server could obtain to supply a quality service. Pix by Shehan Gunasekara
