The first stage of the 10,000 houses project being constructed for the low income families will be completed next year.
The Urban Development Authority informed that accordingly construction work in Mayura Place, Dematagoda and Borella housing complexes will be completed. 1,720 houses will be constructed under this phase and there will be 120 houses in Mayura Place, 500 houses in Dematagoda and 1,100 houses in Borella. Each housing unit is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 3 million with all facilities under the Colombo city beautification program and will be provided to people living in congested areas lacking many facilities. The UDA said that construction work of other houses is also being carried out and the project will be completed in 2014. The other housing complexes are being constructed at Sirimawo Bandaranaike Mawatha in Modara, Ferguson Road, Gnanawimala Mawatha in Maligawatta, Saalamulla, Angoda and Mahawatta. (www.news.lk)
