Committee appointed to look into John De Silva theatre construction

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday announced that he has decided to appoint a committee to look into the construction of the John De Silva theatre.
In a statement, the Prime Minister’s office said a committee consisting of dramatists would be appointed after considering details he had received about this project from various dramatists.
“Some dramatists have complained that there are no facilities in this theatre complex to promote the culture of drama in the country, while some have also claimed that they cannot afford to stage their plays according to the high prices of this theatre. Therefore, the Prime Minister will decide on whether to continue with this project or not after considering the report of the committee,” the statement added.
