Committee to explore possibilities to allow Lankan expatriates vote

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya informed Parliament yesterday the appointment of a special Parliament select committee to look into the possibility of setting a system to enable Lankan expatriates to cast their votes in future elections.

The Speaker has appointed Foreign Employment Minister Thalatha Atukorala as the Chairperson of the committee to make recommendations on this regard.

The committee comprises of MPs Susil Premajayantha, Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle, Faizal Casim, Dr. Harsha De Silva, Ranjan Ramanayake, Douglas Devananda, Gamini Lokuge, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Keheliya Rambukwella, Sunil Handunnetti, Bimal Ratnayake, J. C. Alawathuwala, S. Sritharan, M. A. Sumanthiran, A. Aravind Kumara, Nalaka Prasad Kolonne, Chandima Gamage, Mujibur Rahuman and Gnanamuththu Srineshan, announced the Speaker.
