The Health Minister has directed the Director General of Health Services to appoint an inter-ministerial committee to look into maintaining the quality of imported food stuff, medicine and other products. The Health Ministry stated that in the wake of several imported milk powder brands being banned, it was important to maintain the quality of products that were imported to this country. It also added that it was not able to handle this issue alone and that an inter-ministerial committee would help this process. The committee will work with the Trade and Consumer Affairs, Environment, Agriculture and the Science and Technology Ministries. The Health Ministry will submit the Cabinet paper on this committee to the Cabinet of Ministers within the next few days.
