Members of Commonwealth Chamber of Commerce met Douglas Devananda, Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development recently in Colombo.
The discussion held, focused on the development of Small and Medium Scale Industries in Sri Lanka.
The Minister apprised the visiting team, headed by Mohan Paul of the island-wide projects implemented by the Government, for development of the Small Scale Industries in Sri Lanka. Accordingly, he placed before the visiting representatives, the Industrial Exhibitions held island-wide by his Ministry under “Divineguma” Program for initiation of Domestic and Small Scale Industries and the help extended by the Government in response to the applications for such industries made after the industrial exhibitions. The Minister also detailed the team of the future plans of his Ministry, especially, those planned to be launched jointly with the Indian Government. In addition, the Minister also spoke about the future plans of the North Sea Ltd, Palmyrah Development Board and the Industrial Estate at Atchuveli. The Minister, in conclusion noted that the development projects carried out by the Government were in accordance with “Mahinda Chinthana” policy program.
