Continuous support at global fora, Maldivian FM assures President

The Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees on Saturday. The discussion focused on a number of matters of mutual interest including education and further strengthening bilateral relations. “On the international front, let me assure you of the Maldives’ continuous support,” Maumoon said during the meeting. This visit is Maumoon’s second to Sri Lanka as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Her last visit was when she accompanied Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen during the State Visit to Sri Lanka in January this year. She joined former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, who is currently in Sri Lanka, for a reception President Rajapaksa is hosting as the Chair-in-Office of the Commonwealth to celebrate the cultural diversity of Commonwealth nations. The Acting High Commissioner of Maldives in Sri Lanka Dr. Hussain Niyaaz accompanied Foreign Minister Maumoon. Minister of External Affairs Prof. G.L. Peiris, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs Kshenuka Senewiratne were present for the meeting.
