The newly-formed United National Front for Good Governance (UNFGG), led by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, kicked off its general election campaign in Kandy yesterday. Leaders of several political parties that oppose former President Mahinda Rajapaksa participated in the rally along with a large number of their supporters - Pix by Pradeep Pathiranaa

Leaders of the United National Front for Good Governance (UNFGG), led by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, yesterday visited the Temple of the Tooth Relic ahead of their election campaign.

The UNFGG delegation was received by the temple’s Chief Custodian Nilanga Delebandara.

Ministers Patali Champika Ranawaka, Arjuna Ranatunga, Lakshman Kiriella, Rajitha Senarathna and Ravi Karunanayake and UNP President Malik Samarawickrama were part of the delegation.

After participating in religious rites, the UNFGG delegation paid a courtesy call to the Malwathu Chief Prelate Most Venerable Tibbatu-waawe Sri Sumangala Thera.

During his discussion with the Nayake Thera, the Premier stated that his goal was to implement a program of good governance and increase the country’s economic growth.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe pointed out the need for a strong government to achieve this goal.

The chief prelate also stated that he had a good understanding of such goals.

MR in Kandy

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday engaged in religious activities at the Temple of the Tooth Relic to receive the blessings of the sacred tooth relic.

Addressing the gathering later, he said that government servants were facing several problems as more than 500 government servants had been questioned over various matters.
