Court grants bail to Tissa

The Colombo Fort Magistrate Court yesterday granted bail to former Health Minister of the previous Government and former General Secretary of the United National Party (UNP) MP Tissa Attanayake. Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage ordered to release the former Minister on a Rs. 1 million personal surety since the prosecution has not produced any witnesses to the charges against the defendant. MP Attanayake is accused of producing the document with forged signatures of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. The document was alleged to be a secret agreement between UNP National Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and the then common Opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena. The Court postponed the hearing of the case until 11 March.
