A court has postponed the hearing of the petition filed against the election results of the Kolonnawa Urban Council until next year.

Colombo High Court Judge Sunil Rajapaksa has ordered that initial objections against the petition filed by Opposition Leader of the Kolonnawa Urban Council, Chandrasiri Dias be presented to court on 28 January next year.

The petitioner has sought to ask courts to annul the election results of the Kolonnawa Urban Council held in October and cancel the appointment of members to the council. The petition has stated that the election results could not be accepted due to the massive violation of election laws during the period of the elections and on election day.

The petitioner has cited the Commissioner of Elections, MP Duminda Silva and fifteen others who have been elected to the Kolonnawa urban council, as respondents.

He has claimed that since the day nominations were filed, MP Duminda Silva and his aides harassed the opposition United National Party candidates.

The lawyers appearing for the respondents have informed courts when the case was taken up yesterday that they would file objections to the petition. Judge Rajapaksa has then ordered that all objections be filed on 28 January next year. (Colombo Page)
