In a potential sign of things to come, UPFA Nuwara Eliya District Parliamentarian Perumal Rajadurai joined the United National Party and pledged his support to common Opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena yesterday. Rajadurai, who hails from the Thondaman-led Ceylon Workers’ Congress, with its large support base among Tamils of Indian origin in the central hills, held a media briefing yesterday, together with UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe. The CWC politician announced he was quitting the UPFA Government last Friday, when Sirisena and several other UPFA members defected to the Opposition. He said differences had arisen within his party with regard to the state of political affairs.
