D.A. Rajapaksa memorial ceremony at Temple Trees

The 47th D.A. Rajapaksa commemorative ceremony was held at Temple Trees on 3 November with the participation of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The commemorative oration was delivered by former Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce of the University of Sri Jayawardenepura Prof. Sampath Amaratunga and member of the University Grants Commission on the topic ‘The Foundation of Mahinda Chintana and Future Sri Lanka’. The event was presided over by Prof. Emeritus of the University of Peradeniya and Chancellor of the Jaffna University Dr. S. Pathmanadan. The event was organised by the Rajapaksa Memorial Educational Cultural, Social Services Foundation. Delivering the oration, Prof. Sampath Amaratunga said it was the Mahinda Chintana that truly created a Sri Lankan identify in the global arena in the midst of foreign forces. He said that it is his belief that the Mahinda Chintana will be the driving force which will make Sri Lanka a developed nation. Accordingly, Prof. Amaratunga said it will become the people’s eternal vision in the future. Deshabandu Sirisumana Godage garlanded the statue of D. A. Rajapaksa while a floral tribute was placed near it by former principal and Justice of Peace Piyadasa Wanniarachchi. Among the distinguished participants were First Lady Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa, Secretary of Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa, relatives of the Rajapaksa family, ministers and foreign diplomats.
