Demo against death of suspect

A demonstration was staged outside the Dematagoda police station yesterday against the death of a suspect in police custody. Relatives of the suspect demanded an explanation for his death after he was arrested last night for having drugs in his possession.

Police spokesman SP Budhika Siriwardena said that after the man was arrested in the Dematagoda area, he had suffered breathing problems while in custody. The police admitted the man to hospital on Monday night but he had died yesterday, the police spokesman said.
