Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris yesterday ordered to further remand former Western Province Senior DIG Anura Senanayake till 3 August over allegation of concealing evidence related to the killing of rugby player Wasim Thajudeen.5

Along with Senanayake, former Narahenpita Crimes OIC Sumith Perera, who was arrested on the same charges, was also remanded till 3 August by the Additional Magistrate.

Both were arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on 23 May after being questioned over the murder investigation for a third time.

The investigations into Thajudeen’s death took place under the direct supervision of Senanayake, in 2012. Preliminary investigations have indicated Senanayake instructed his junior Police officers to record Thajudeen’s death as an accident.
