Sri Lanka’s star cricketers Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara will face disciplinary action over remarks they made on the cricket authority Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) over their announcement of retirement. The SLC said it has decided to conduct an inquiry on the criticisms made by Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardana after returning to Sri Lanka after winning the ICC T20 world cup. SLC said its executive committee took this decision at a discussion held Monday (April 21) and further steps will be taken after the assessment of the disciplinary committee. The two senior players, who recently retired from international T20 matches, criticized the SLC on how their retirement was handled. The two senior players announced their retirement from the T20 format to the media first during the World T20 in Dhaka before informing the cricket board. The SLC said the players should have informed their intentions to the authority first and not to the media. Both Sangakkara and Jayawardena announced their retirement officially upon returning from Bangladesh.
