Divisional bench to hear spate of impeachment cases

A spate of impeachment related cases are scheduled to come up before the Supreme Court today.

According to a Supreme Court List of Cases issued to lawyers, the Bench is to consist of nine judges of the 11 member Supreme Court, the first time since the review of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution in 1987 that such a large divisional bench has sat.

Several fundamental rights applications are scheduled to come up before the bench in court room 502 at 9:30 a.m. including a petition to quash a Writ finding in favour of Chief Justice 43 Shirani Bandaranayake by the Court of Appeal in January.
