United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) parliamentarian Dumindha Silva is currently receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital after undergoing intense surgery to his head to remove bullet fragments.

The 36-year-old MP was admitted to the hospital on Saturday following injuries received during a shootout in the Mulleriyawa area.

Hospital sources told ColomboPage that following surgery to his head that lasted for over five hours, Silva was admitted to the ICU on Saturday.

However, doctors say they are unable to predict Silva’s condition for the next 48 hours since surgery.

Director of the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital Dr. S.A.K. Gamage has told the media that Silva is currently being kept under observation in the ICU.  He has said that two bullets have been removed from the parliamentarian’s head and a third bullet is still lodged in the head.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa last year appointed MP Silva as Monitoring MP to the Defence Ministry. Accordingly he has been given the responsibility of monitoring activities of institutions that function under the Ministry.
