Government Minister and EPDP leader Douglas Devananda has written to President Mahinda Rajapaksa calling for an independent investigation into the Channel 4 video on the murder of Isaipriya, a statement from the EPDP, an ally of the ruling coalition said. The Government Minister says the President must call for an investigation to bring out the truth regarding the circumstances which led to Isaipriya’s death and reveal it to the public. He says the video has stirred the emotions of the Tamils both here and overseas just when the Government is preparing to host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. The Minister noted that the video claims Isaipriya was captured by the army and then killed and those allegations must be investigated. Devananda says investigating the video and ensuring justice will be the best way to address concerns regarding the final stages of the war. The army had said the latest video on Sri Lanka released by Britain’s Channel 4 is “fake” and once again attempts to discredit the army ahead of an international event. (Colombo Gazette)
