105,406 electors in the Matara district endorsed UPFA district leader Dullas Alahaperuma’s eco friendly election campaign to elect him to Parliament with the highest number of preferential votes obtained by an individual in the district.

Dullas did not spend millions of rupees to print posters, banners, cut-outs, caps and T-shirts or spend on firecrackers, alcohol or musical shows but reached the hearts of the people with his simple hand bill titled ‘Mathota Mudrawa’ or the ‘Seal of Mathota’ which was hand delivered to each and every household in the district.

Dullas Alahapperuma who held the portfolios of transport and subsequently youth affairs and skills development under former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s UPFA Government prides himself as a journalist rather than a politician.

“I am extremely grateful to the electors of Matara for endorsing Sri Lanka’s first ever eco friendly election campaign introduced by me. I am grateful to the 105,406 voters who elected me to Parliament with the highest number of preferential votes in the district as they have helped me to prove that within this spiteful preferential voting system one can win without polluting the environment and wasting money to outdo the other candidate’s extravagancies.”

“I call upon every citizen of Sri Lanka to site the success of my eco friendly election campaign and demand from their political parties, leaders of political parties and candidates not to pollute the environment by printing posters, banners, cut-outs etc., and waste money on musical shows, caps, t-shirts and other forms of fancy publicity because it is the people of the nation and universe that have to bear the cost of all these extravagancies at the end including the immense harm done to the eco system.”
