‘Api Wenuwen Api’ phase six starts in Ampara

The sixth phase of the Api Wenuwen Api Housing Project that was initiated to provide the needy soldiers with housing facilities, commenced in Divlana Vidyalaya, Ampara yesterday morning with the participation of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.



14 houses, built in the districts of Ampara, Trincomalee and Batticoloa were handed over to the selected soldiers by the President.

This housing project has provided 151 houses to soldiers up to now. This figure includes 25 in the Kandy district, 27 in Kurunegala, 36 in Matara and Hambantota, 31 in Badulla and Monaragala districts, and 32 in Galle.

Started in 2009, the Api Wenuwen Api Housing Project is under the supervision of the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Ministry of Defence, and is funded by local and foreign donors.

On this occasion, President Rajapaksa also distributed school equipment among the students of Divlana Vidyalaya.

Expressing his views, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga said that everyone in Sri Lanka enjoys full benefits of freedom as the President has liberated the country from the menace of terrorism. The contribution of the security forces to the country’s development under the directions of the Ministry of Defence needs to be appreciated, he added.
