“Bring back peace and tranquility to Sri Lanka” - Anandasangaree appeals to Jayalalitha

President of the Tamil United Liberation Front V. Anandasangaree has felicitated the decisive landslide victory of Jayalalitha Jayaram, the AIADMK supremo in the Tamil Nadu state Assembly held recently and appealed to her to, “Bring back peace and tranquility to Sri Lanka.”

In a congratulatory note, Anandasangaree has said, “The Tamil United Liberation Front takes pride in congratulating you, for leading your party, the AIADMK to an unprecedented victory by obtaining 87% of the total number of seats, at the Tamil Nadu Assembly election, that will elevate you to the high office as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.”

The TULF President, in his felicitation message has underlined that, “The Tamils of Sri Lanka join the seventy million people of Tamil Nadu in rejoicing and celebrating this historical achievement with hopes for a bright future for the People of Tamil Nadu and the Tamils of Sri Lanka.”

He further added, “We hope that without confrontation, by your good will and perseverance, you will help to bring back peace and tranquility to Sri Lanka wherein all communities will enjoy equal rights and opportunities and live together happily and peacefully.”

In the meantime Jayalalithaa who is to assume office of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after decimating DMK Patriarch M.Karunanidhi and his outfit is expected to meet the Governor today and make her claim to run the state for the next five years. (Asian Tribune)

TNA to talk with the newly elected Tamil Nadu Chief Minister

 Tamil constituent Tamil National Alliance (TNA) said yesterday the party would soon meet and have discussions with the newly elected Tamil Nadu Chief Minister AIADMK chief Jayaram Jayalalitha who has called for prosecution of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa before the International Court on charges of genocide.

TNA parliamentarian Mavai Senathirajah said they appreciated the voters’ decision of the Tamil Nadu and wished the new Chief Minister good luck.  He further stated that the TNA believed Jayalalitha who was elected for a third time yesterday had a good understanding about the problems of the Sri Lankan Tamils.

Senathirajah expressed expectations that she would discuss with the Indian central government to negotiate a fair solution to the Tamils of Sri Lanka.  However, the newly elected Chief Minister yesterday called for the central government to declare Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa a “war criminal” for the “genocide” of Tamils.

In her victory speech after her landslide win for Tamil Nadu assembly, Jayalalitha said after she takes over as the Chief Minister she would exert pressure on the central government to bring President Rajapaksa to the International Court on charges of war crimes.

She asked the Indian government to impose economic sanctions against Sri Lanka to force the Sri Lankan government to take steps to alleviate the sufferings of Tamils in the country to provide them “an honourable and decent life”.
