“Sandun Arana National Programme,” which operates under the guidance of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources has recently launched a new phase at the Defence Ministry under the patronage of Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The Minister was handover the Sandalwood saplings to be planted in the camp premises of the three armed forces.

According to the Red Data of IUCH, sandalwood is one of the plants which is under threat of extinction. “Sandun Arana National Programme” has taken necessary steps to plant sandalwood in places of religious importance and premises of government institutions. Nearly 300,000 saplings have been planted under several projects throughout the country. Two environmentalists, Channa Abeywardena and Asitha Korala are also present.
