Emergency dengue prevention program in Western Province

An Emergency Dengue Prevention Presidential Task Force has been formed in order to curb the Dengue epidemic which is on the rise mainly in Colombo and its suburbs. Accordingly a three day Dengue Prevention Program will be conducted covering 84 Grama Niladari divisions in Colombo, said Director/Spokesperson, Media Centre of the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya. Infectious Diseases Physician Dr. Paba Palihawadana and Director of Dengue Prevention Program Dr. Asitha Thisera were also present at the media conference. The Emergency Dengue Prevention Task Force members will be comprised of the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Law and Order, Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs and Ministry of Environment and Renewable Energy. The special dengue prevention emergency program will be conducted on 20, 21 and 22 of this month where awareness programs to educate residents on the measures that should be initiated in their homes during the session will also be conducted. Members of the special task force will be issued with an Identity Card to ease their work. Prior to the execution, a special education program had been conducted for the participants of the program on effective and mutual engagement with the city dwellers. Teams will comprise of health officers, police officers and members of the armed forces. Meanwhile, education posters will also be distributed among the public.
