Emergency extended

Parliament yesterday extended the Emergency Regulations for another month with a majority of 75 votes.

The bill effective from 03rd March 2011 received 90 votes in favour of the motion while 15 votes were against it.

Some members of the main opposition United National Party, the Tamil National Alliance, and Democratic National Alliance voted against.

The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned until 1:00 p.m. on 22nd March 2011.
