End of war a golden opportunity for rapid development in the country: Basil

Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapakse declared that it was possible to transform Sri Lanka to a developed country of Asia, which was lagging behind during the period of war.

The minister who declared that free education and health services were affected and the health officials of the country has credited for higher reverence said: “It was possible to maintain health services in higher level as physically and in the light of human resources as well,” participating for the ceremonies of declaring open the child and maternity clinics held recently, constructed   in Ragama-Batuwattha, Gampaha-Ibulgoda and Divlapitiya-Halpe areas under the financial provisory of Ministry of Economic Development.

“The construction of child and maternity clinics required to deliver healthy children who are to take over the future of our country and treat them. This was initiated under the concept of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. We suffered from brutal terrorism throughout 30 years, our country was lagged behind which was an undeveloped country at the time of starting the brutal terrorism. We implement the program of constructing child and maternity clinics’ Island wide.

“Child and maternity clinics will be constructed in each Grama Niladhari division of Gampaha District.  Remaining tow centres being constructed. There are several who criticise while in progress. When we constructed the first harbour after freedom, the opposition called it a swimming pool. They mentioned the value of one ship, by dividing the expenditure. After constructing the Mattala Airport they said that it is necessary to light fire crackers to chase out the birds before landing the plane.”

Rajapaksa also added that, “Various criticisms are coming to us. Yet our President believes that the people’s needs should be provided by the Government. There are no thousand fares to bring their productions to town. Today, we have developed the thousand fares from the Pradesiya Sabha road to expressway providing electricity for each village.”

If it is to provide electricity for the entire country, power stations should be constructed. There are some people who oppose to this. “We redeveloped continuous power plants such as Uma Oya and upper Kotmale power plants, Norochchol coal plant and Kerewalapitiya thermal power plant.”

Even though Gampaha District has more voters, water supply prevails in the low level is possible to provide water for more people in Aththanagalla, Dompe and Minuwangoda, under the irrigation scheme being constructed across the Aththanagalu Oya. Rajapaksa also added: “We need strength to do these things. Yet, there are some who interrupt this. The opposition took action to make 21 May not as a no working day, but as a working day, which resulted in the participation of 89% public officers reported as 95%. It is an encouragement to the Government. Fifty three trains and a large amount of private and CTB buses were driven at that day.”

Minister of social service Felix Perera, Deputy Minister of Indigenous Medicine Pandu Bandaranayaka and several other officials participated at this occasion.
