Some NGOs conniving with international groups are trying to give the false impression that the views of a small group reflect the thinking of the vast majority of Sri Lankans. Since the aim of these conspirators is to internationally isolate this country the only way to defeat their attempt is to give the Government the opportunity to obtain the highest victory at the coming Western and Southern Provincial Council Elections. SLFP National Organiser and Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa made the above observation at the opening of the Elections Offices of Gampaha District UFA Candidates at Biyagama on recently. Deputy Minister Dulip Wijesekara presided over the meetings. The SLFP National Organiser said that voters should make sure they elect the right candidates who will lead the country in the right direction without ignoring the people’s wishes. He added that although the elections are provincial they will be decisive for the country’s future. He pointed out that although previous presidents had folded the elections map President Rajapaksa has always ensured that the people get the opportunity to express their views through elections. The people too had expressed their support to the Government a number of times. Although some people think self-employment does not fit a streamlined economy, self-employed persons make a major contribution to the economy according to Minister Rajapaksa, though statistics does not show it. But President Rajapaksa ensured their economic security by streamlining the self-employment sphere as in other countries where they are categorised as small and medium scale entrepreneurs. When President Mahinda Rajapaksa came to power in 2005 the Tigers controlled eight districts of the island under the Ranil-Prabha agreement. At the time people from the South had to obtain LTTE permission to go on pilgrimage to Nagadeepa and Madhu. Today some people have forgotten it. A number of politicians were among the large crowd present.
