European Union Ambassador to address National Chamber

The Ambassador of European Union David Daly will be the special guest speaker at a session on ‘Bilateral Trade Between Sri Lanka and European Union’ organised by the National Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday 25 March from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Chamber Auditorium No 450 D.R. Wijewardene Mw, Colombo 10. He will speak on the latest regulations on trade with EU countries, current business trend, trade potential opportunities for export/import/investment, GSP and other services available with the European Union. Participants will also get an opportunity to interact with the Ambassador and the Trade Counsellor of the European Union. Quoted below are excerpts from the recent newspapers that appeared on the current EU trade with Sri Lanka. “EU extends help as bilateral trade tops $ 5 b mark. 2014’s three biggest exports: Apparels, tyres, frozen fish; 69% of EU trade are exports from SL at $ 3.5 b. “Sri Lanka’s bilateral trade with European Union smashed the crucial $ 5 b barrier for the first time in trade history last year and a visiting top EU Trade personality vowed no less than his personal engagement to solve teething issues in bilateral trade. “Sri Lanka’s bilateral trade with the EU topped $ 5.077 b for the first time in 2014. Apparel was the biggest export item in 2014 at $ 2.16 b, growing by 10.5%; the second biggest was rubber tyres and tubes at $ 20 m and the third biggest was frozen fish at $ 90 m. “As for GSP+, it is something which we again need to address in the Trade Committee since this new Government will try best to settle the situation completely and it cannot be accused of any wrongdoing in this particular field. As for investments, the power and energy sector of Sri Lanka is very promising.” “Fresh and frozen fish exports to the EU in 2014 reached $ 101.25 m, a 3.4% increase from 2013.” The EU countries are: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the UK.  For registration kindly contact the Chamber T.P. 4741788 Mrs Fouad or email [email protected].
