Extension for PSC on devolution

By Ashwin Hemmathagama Our Lobby Correspondent Parliament yesterday extended the term of the much-publicised Parliamentary Select Committee tasked with recommending constitutional changes to find a political solution to the ethnic question until June 2014 to complete its assignment. Leader of the House and Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva who is chairing the Select Committee looking into ‘Political and Constitutional Measures to Empower the People of Sri Lanka to Live as One Nation’ moved a motion under Standing Orders requesting the extension to complete its work, since the committee was unable to report on its findings to Parliament. The committee also comprises Ministers Prof. G. L. Peiris, Maithripala Sirisena, W.D.J. Seneviratne, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Dinesh Gunawardena, Douglas Devananda, Susil Premajayantha, A.L.M. Athaulla, D.E.W. Gunasekera, Rishad Bathiudeen, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Wimal Weerawansa, Basil Rohana Rajapaksa, Lakshman Seneviratne, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Deputy Minister Muthu Sivalingam, MP Dr. Sudrashini Fernandopulle and MP Janaka Bandara.
