New Delhi: Sri Lanka’s External Affairs Minister Professor G.L. Peiris will be visiting India next week, India said yesterday.

The Sri Lankan Minister is expected to hold discussions with his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj on key issues of mutual interest to both countries, mainly the fishermen’s issue and the welfare of Tamils in Sri Lanka.
The Official Spokesperson of India’s Ministry of External Affairs said at the press briefing Thursday that the two governments are working on the Sri Lankan Minister’s visit and it is likely that he would visit this month.The spokesman did not reveal a specific date for the visit.
This will be Peiris’ second visit to India after the new Government came into power. He accompanied Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa to the swearing-in ceremony of the new Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 26 May.
When asked about the Indian fishermen detained in Sri Lanka, the spokesperson said Sri Lanka has released more than 175 fishermen since the new Modi Government came to power.
“There are small number of fishermen who are still in custody in Sri Lanka and our Mission is working on that,” he said.
