A film producer who pleaded guilty to cheating veteran film conservator Tissa Nagodavithana of Rs. 300,000 was yesterday sentenced to a six-month suspended imprisonment by a Colombo Court.

When the case came up before Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage, the film producer, W.A.S.K. Samarawickrema, informed Court that he had already paid the total amount to the complainant party.

The film producer who pleaded guilty to the charges was sentenced to six-month rigorous imprisonment suspended for five years with a fine of Rs. 3,000.

Lodging a complaint with the Colpetty Police, Nagodavithana alleged that though he had purchased a Sinhala film called ‘Sonduru Dadabima’ from film producer W.A.S.K. Samarawickrema for Rs. 300,000 on 9 October 2009, the film in question had been sold by the suspect to another party previously and even before that to E.A.P. Films and Theater for Rs. 100,000.
