First lion cub in 25 years arrives from South Korea

A male lion cub was brought to Sri Lanka’s National Zoological Gardens from South Korea.

The lion cub imported from South Korea’s Seoul Zoo was the first lion to be brought to Sri Lanka in 25 years The zoo authorities have decided to bring the animal from overseas to replete the aging six-member lion display in the zoo. All six lions in the herd are over 15 years of age.

Two more female cubs are to be imported from Germany in the upcoming weeks, media reports added.

Lions are a major display in the National Zoo of Sri Lanka where lion is considered the national symbol. There are no naturally living lions in Sri Lanka at present although there was evidence that they lived thousands of years ago.
