Former Chief JMO of Colombo Ananda Samarasekera was ordered to file counter objections before the Colombo High Court on 7 December against objections filed by the Attorney General opposing the revision application filed by the Samarasekera in the High Court.

The JMO is seeking anticipatory bail over his arrest as a suspect for the murder of rugby player Wasim Thajudeen.

Colombo High Court Judge Padmini N. and Ranawaka Gunatillake made this order during the inquiry into the revision application filed in the High Court by the JMO seeking a revision against the rejection of the anticipatory bail sought by the IMO before Colombo Additional Magistrate Dulani Amarasinghe. On a previous inquiry date, Senior State Counsel Dilan Ratnayake raised a preliminary objection against the anticipatory bail application before the Court, contending that the JMO had misplaced or had unable to find parts of the body of Wasim Thajudeen after the first autopsy under JMO custody.

Counsel Ratnayaaka said following the first autopsy on Thajudeen’s body, the former IMO had kept parts of the body in his custody, and that a few days prior to his retirement; he had removed them from his office. Counsel Ratnayake said the missing body parts belonged to the state and that the former JMO is not entitled to seek anticipatory bail.
