A former Supreme Court judge Sarath de Abrew has died yesterday from injuries sustained in a fall.

The former judge was believed to have fallen off the top floor of his residence in Attidiya, Ratmalana yesterday. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital at Kalubowila.

Earlier this year, the former judge was indicted for sexually assaulting a female domestic helper employed in his residence.

The police arrested the judge on 7 July 2015 when he surrendered to the court following the announcement that the Attorney General has given the go-ahead to arrest the apex court judge. He was granted bail on 12 January 2016.
